Framed Space is a project built around clarity, precision, and a single defining idea: to dissolve the boundary between inside and out while giving that transition a strong architectural presence.

From the moment you enter the house, the extension reveals itself in a single, uninterrupted view. Sightlines are carefully controlled, drawing the eye through the interior and out toward the sunken terrace beyond. When the large sliding doors are opened, the corten frame and glazing align seamlessly, allowing the space to expand outward and fully connect with the garden.

​Internally, the architecture is organised through a series of defined moments rather than partitions. Brick piers, rooflights, and carefully positioned lighting elements create subtle divisions between kitchen, dining, and living areas. These elements are precisely aligned — each responding to the geometry of the next — resulting in a composition where structure, light, and material work as one.

Light is used deliberately to shape the space. A linear rooflight and lighting trough carve through the ceiling, reinforcing the central axis of the room and anchoring the dining space below. By day, the space is flooded with natural light; by night, it is defined by a soft, continuous glow that emphasises depth and material texture.

The project demanded exceptional coordination. The corten frame and glazing system required millimetre accuracy to achieve the intended visual alignment, with every component prefabricated and assembled with precision.

At its centre is a bold corten steel exoskeleton — a structural frame that sits independently from the glazing behind it, creating a layered threshold between house and garden. This element does more than define the extension; it shapes the entire experience of the space. It appears to float, with its upper beam hovering over slender vertical frames, all carefully aligned to achieve a precise, weightless composition.
