Ribbon House is a project defined by precision, restraint, and bold reinvention. Set within a Victorian building of townscape merit, the brief demanded something ambitious: a contemporary transformation that respected the past while pushing the architecture forward.

Richmond upon Thames, London

Internally, the project reimagines how the home is lived in. A complex, wedge-shaped site and constrained heritage frontage required a complete rethinking of the plan. The result is a series of interconnected spaces that shift in height, volume, and light — creating a dynamic sequence that adapts to the rhythms of modern family life. Light is drawn deep into the plan through carefully positioned glazing, unlocking spaces that were previously dark and underused.

The build demanded an exceptional level of coordination and craftsmanship. The façade, in particular, required millimetre precision. Every element hand-made, tested, and installed with care to maintain the integrity of the design. Sustainability is embedded throughout, with renewable systems, high-performance fabric, and material reuse shaping a home that is both forward-thinking and enduring.

Ribbon House is a clear expression of the CAELIX mindset:

Respect what exists. Challenge what’s possible. Build something better.

The original structure was retained and carefully reworked, while a new ground floor extension introduces a striking, crafted intervention. At its core is a bespoke façade. A repeating geometric pattern inspired by the building’s existing detailing, translated into a contemporary language. This layered composition plays with ideas of solid and void, pattern and depth, creating a distinctive architectural identity that feels both familiar and new.
